Walkathon : Warri’s First Sickle Cell Awareness Walk.
Join us on Sat. June 16th for our first annual Sickle Cell Walk in Warri, Move for Sickle Cell Disease!
Sickle cell disease is not just about pain. It is also about strength. With a supportive community, people living with sickle cell or warriors as we refer ourselves can come out and live without any form of stereotype or stigma.
There’s an erroneous belief that a good percentage of Nigerians needs to debunk. Our society has branded sicklers as weak, incompetent and ticking time bomb that will soon die. It’s lack of proper awareness that ensures that this erroneous and wrong mindset persists. One of our primary objective at Audrey’s Diary is to see that this ignorance is squashed.
SCD is known for causing episodes of severe pain requiring medical treatment and often hospitalization. However, warriors are not defined by the complications of this disease but by their strength and resiliency. It’s on this premise we introduce Walkathon.
Walkathon is Warri’s first sickle cell awareness walk. The goal of this walk is to create massive awareness about this disease plaguing Africa and Nigeria in particular.
We want to raise awareness of the salient challenges of Warriors, How you can properly take care of a Warrior or support them and join in the fight against this SCD.
We also want to celebrate and support the warriors in our community who work hard to live well with Sickle Cell!
Start Time: 7:00am
